Tricon Materials has a rich history in the Illinois gravel industry. The company was originally founded as Walnut Sand and Gravel in 1968 by Richard 'Dick' Nelson and his brother Ronald Nelson. They operated gravel pits in Walnut, Hennepin, and Henry, providing top-quality washed aggregates for asphalt, concrete, and base material applications. In 1992, Richard formed Tri-Con Materials with partners Steve Nelson and Steve Harmon, and in 1997 they merged Tri-Con Materials with Walnut Sand and Gravel to become the operating entity of Tricon Materials.

Today, Tricon Materials operates from their Hennepin location, which is their largest active gravel pit on the Illinois River. They are committed to providing the highest quality aggregate materials to their Illinois customers when and where they need them.
